The First Vice Chairman of Amman Chamber of Commerce, Nabil Al-Khatib, affirmed the Chamber’s commitment to developing economic and trade relations with the Republic of Indonesia and enhancing the presence of the Jordanian private sector in promising Asian markets. He emphasized the importance of building on the political ties between the two countries and steering them toward practical and sustainable economic partnerships.

According to a statement from the Chamber, Al-Khatib, during a virtual meeting held via Zoom with leaders of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, reviewed several priority areas for strengthening bilateral cooperation. Foremost among these were activating the Jordanian–Indonesian Business Council and organizing trade missions and reciprocal visits between the business communities of both countries.

Al-Khatib, who was joined in the meeting by Chamber Board Member Falah Al-Sughayer, noted that Jordan offers promising investment opportunities thanks to its strategic location and free trade agreements with the United States, Canada, and the European Union. This enables Indonesian investors to establish productive projects in the Kingdom and re-export their products at preferential rates to global markets.

He emphasized the importance of developing religious and medical tourism programs between the two countries by including Jordan in pilgrimage and Umrah travel routes for Indonesian citizens, organizing familiarization trips to boost tourism promotion, and exploring the possibility of operating charter flights to facilitate the movement of religious and tourist delegations.

Al-Khatib also stressed the significant opportunities for cooperation in renewable energy, halal food industries, and logistics sectors, in addition to exploring the potential of launching a direct flight between Amman and Jakarta through cooperation between airlines of the two countries.

For his part, the President of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Emil Arifin, expressed his appreciation for the initiative, confirming mutual interest in strengthening economic relations, particularly in the religious tourism sector, and in developing joint investment programs in hotel projects, solar energy, and halal products.

He also pointed to the potential for Indonesian cinnamon and spices to enter the Jordanian market, be repackaged in Jordan’s free zones, and then re-exported to American and European markets.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Amman Chamber of Commerce, Ghaleb Hijazi, highlighted the importance of continuing joint institutional meetings and intensifying communication between the two chambers to ensure that the proposed ideas are transformed into practical projects that serve the interests of the commercial and economic sectors in both Jordan and Indonesia.

During the meeting, both sides agreed on a set of practical steps to enhance economic cooperation, most notably expediting efforts to sign a free trade agreement or preferential trade agreement between the two countries, and activating the Jordanian–Indonesian Business Council as a permanent platform for dialogue and follow-up.

They also agreed to prepare for hosting a joint business forum in Amman in the coming period, develop religious and medical tourism programs, and facilitate direct networking between companies across various sectors.

Both parties stressed the importance of encouraging Indonesian investments in Jordan’s free and development zones, as well as enhancing cooperation in halal food industries and other priority economic sectors.
