Discussing ways to strengthen Kingdom’s economic relations with Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova

 

The Board of Directors of the Amman Chamber of Commerce discussed, with the Kingdom’s ambassador-designate to Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova, Moataz Al-Khasawneh, ways to develop Jordan’s economic relations with the three friendly countries and address the challenges facing the Kingdom’s trade movement with them.

 

They also discussed the role that the Jordanian embassy in Bucharest could play in arranging for a Jordanian economic delegation to visit Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova, and providing a database on the opportunities available in these countries in order to achieve food security in the country by leasing or owning agricultural land and exploiting it in a way that ensures the provision of food at appropriate prices and quantities. Needed by the local market, and transferring agricultural expertise to the Kingdom.

 

According to a statement by the Chamber, during the meeting held at the premises of the Amman Chamber of Commerce, the need to increase Romanian investments in the Kingdom, which is currently considered modest, was discussed, especially since Jordan has an attractive environment for investment and its distinguished location can be exploited to be a center for storing and re-exporting Romanian products to the countries of the region, especially wheat. Romania can also be made a center for re-exporting Jordanian products, such as fertilizers, to the Balkan countries.

 

Chamber Chairman Khalil Haj Tawfiq confirmed that the Chamber will work in coordination with the Jordanian Embassy in Bucharest to open a new page of trade relations, hold joint exhibitions and exchange trade delegations with the three countries, noting that Jordan is considered a gateway for Romanian products to enter the markets of the Arab Gulf states and Iraq, just as it is considered a gateway for Romanian products to enter the markets of the Arab Gulf states and Iraq. Romania is a gateway for Jordanian products to enter European markets.

 

He pointed to the desire of the commercial sector in its various sectors to develop its economic, investment and trade relations with Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova, indicating that Jordan is an important station for launching global trade for the countries of the region as it is the most stable and secure.

 

He stressed that Jordan is replete with many investment opportunities with high added value, distributed across the sectors of information technology, communications, logistics services, tourism, industry, agriculture, health, energy, renewable energy, medical tourism, mining, and food industries, and possesses a trained and qualified human force to work in foreign markets.

 

Haj Tawfiq pointed out the importance of signing a memorandum of understanding between the Amman Chamber of Commerce and its counterparts in Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova to strengthen the partnership between the commercial sector and make it effective and tangible on the ground, which will be reflected in the performance of the commercial sector and revitalize its work.

 

For his part, Ambassador Al-Khasawneh stressed the importance of activating economic diplomacy, pointing out that the role of diplomatic missions opens new horizons for cooperation or building on what has been accomplished.

 

Al-Khasawneh pointed out that the private sector is the main engine of the national economy, stressing the necessity of achieving the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II in achieving food security in Jordan.

 

He said that achieving food security requires providing an appropriate environment and an effective and real partnership between the public and private sectors, stressing his readiness to cooperate fully with the Amman Chamber of Commerce to provide services that will facilitate business between Jordan and the three countries.

 

Ambassador Al-Khasawneh affirmed his readiness to strengthen cooperation and develop economic relations with Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova, indicating that the embassy will contribute to organizing joint trade missions in cooperation with the Chamber and organizing any bilateral meetings with Jordanian businessmen.

 

In turn, Members of the Chamber’s Board of Directors who attended the meeting confirmed that the commercial and service sector appreciates any efforts that would strengthen bilateral relations through the exchange of trade delegations to explore new markets, establish relations, and expand the horizons of joint cooperation.

 

They pointed out the importance of facilitating obtaining visas and the possibility of having direct airlines to facilitate the movement of individuals and stimulate commercial activity.

 

They confirmed the chamber's readiness to fully cooperate with the Kingdom's embassy in Romania, especially with regard to providing them with the required database on investment opportunities, indicators, trade statistics, etc., in addition to its readiness to receive trade delegations.

 

They pointed out the need to make more efforts and cooperation in the tourism fields, as the countries are full of archaeological and tourist attractions, especially religious tourism in Jordan. They called for organizing a remote meeting between the Association of Tourism and Travel Agents in Jordan and its counterparts in the three countries to enhance cooperation in the tourism field.

 

The meeting was attended by Vice Chairman of the Amman Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Nabil Al-Khatib, Member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors, Falah Al-Saghir, and Director-General of the Chamber, Mr. Hisham Dweik.
