Jordan’s economic ties with Pakistan to be distinguished soon

Chairman of the Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) Senator Issa H. Murad praised the strong and distinguished economic ties between Jordan and Pakistan, and said they would reflect positively on trade exchange between the two countries.

At a meeting with Pakistani Ambassador to Jordan Junaid Rehmat, Murad called for coordination between the ACC and the Pakistani Embassy in Amman on issues related to economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

He described trade relations as modest and below expectations of both countries, calling for intensive efforts to further boost them.

According to ACC figures, Jordan's exports to Pakistan during the first eleven months of 2017 stood at JD13 million, while imports amounted to JD23 million.

The senator also stated that the Board of Directors on its current period has paid many visits to Pakistan, participating in its major trade exhibitions, in particular, (Texpo Pac 2016) and (Expo – Pakistan 2017). Which were held in the Pakistani city of Karachi.

He also pointed at the cooperation agreements signed between both sides, indicating that most of those agreement need to be re-activated.

Murad added that most Jordan’s imports of grains and wheat comes from countries like: Romania, Russia and Ukraine, stating that the kingdom is interested in importing such products from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, which produces high quality grains, mentioning that the kingdom has recently reviewed procedures of importing and testing grains.

According to Murad, the kingdom concentrates now on some products to import from Pakistan, most importantly, textiles, livestock, fish, food products and some kinds of fruits.

The ambassador for his part highlighted the need to boost efforts between the chambers of commerce of both countries to enhance bilateral trade cooperation, promising that he will personally cooperate by inviting them to visit Jordan and seek cooperation with their counterparts in Jordan to promote trade relations and increase trade exchange between Jordan and Pakistan.

He also stressed the importance of providing Jordan with the products like Grains, Textiles, Livestock, Fish, Food products and some kinds of fruits.
