Jordan Seeks further economic cooperation with Ireland

 

 

 


Amman – Wednesday- The Amman Chamber of Commerce First Vice Chairman \ H.E. Mr. Ghassan Khirfan discussed with the Irish Deputy Head of Mission in Cairo, Mr. Vincent Herlihy means of enhancing economic bilateral relations between both friendly countries, Jordan and Ireland, especially, at the private sector’s level.

Khirfan stated that both countries have several opportunities to cooperate and many significant privileges which may benefit both sides.

He highlighted that Jordan is considered a hub for the region and the three continents, Asia, Europe and Africa due to the kingdom’s strategic location. Stating that it is the right time for both sides to work on enhancing their relations in light of opening the border crossings with Iraq and soon with Syria.

During the meeting, Khirfan clarified that it is a positive step to open an Irish Embassy in Amman next year, stressing the Chamber’s readiness to provide the Irish side with economic activity information once required.

The First Vice Chairman also stated that the Chamber is ready to coordinate with the Irish Honorary Consulate in Amman, and is ready to organize any economic and commercial activity concerning both countries.

On his side, Herlihy said that his country gives Jordan a first priority among the countries in the region to enhance its economic and commercial cooperation, therefore, it was decided to establish an Irish Embassy in Amman next year.

He also mentioned that an Irish delegation from (Enterprise Ireland) will visit Jordan next December to make a market study and investigate potentials in the Jordanian market, the delegation will then hold meetings with the stakeholders and business owners of the commercial sector in preparation to establish commercial and investment between both sides.

Herlihy said the Ireland is keen on enhancing it bilateral economic relations with the kingdom especially in the Food products, Pharmaceuticals, Medical supplies, SME’s, Industry, Commercial and Services sectors.

He added that Jordan is considered a well-suited place to establish businesses due to its strategic location, economic security and stability, and also, the experience Jordan’s owns on different domains.
